Referring PAH Patients for Lung Transplant
Dr. Patricia George of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center discusses some of the factors that determine when a patient should have a lung transplant, as well as how the treatment landscape has changed in the treatment of PAH. Patients, who develop worsening disease despite medical therapy, should be referred for transplant as part of a long-term treatment plan. Early evaluation and referral may actually have a number of benefits to the patient, such as the identification of unrecognized or under-managed comorbidities.
